Our mission

One Bike

 Unlimited Possibilities

Our mission is to put the power of choice back into the hands of the rider. To create an E-bike that fits your individual wants, needs and riding style. A bike that you will be far happier with than a bike off the shelf.

Starting with a base product that is created by the people who have dedicated their lives to a knowledge base around bikes and preserving the skills of your local bike shop; wheel builder, and suspension specialist - you end up with a custom E-bike tailored for you.

We don’t strive to be the biggest brand...

we strive to put the biggest grin on your face!

Built On A Solid Foundation

A Feature Rich Design

Crafted in carbon which boasts both strength and lightness, this bike has all you could want from a builders bike. Its dual geometry design allows it to run either both 29 inch wheels or swap the rear wheel for a 27.5 to run slacker angles. Pair this with being able to run a 160-180mm fork which again slackens the head angle and you have a choice of 6 geometry numbers before choosing your parts

We are the choices we make

Frameset, Ready To Ride or Full Custom Build

Buy a frameset and build your bike from the ground up! Talk to us about your dream build and allow us to source you all the parts needed then build it in store. Choosing a budget friendly, ready to ride option is also possible.

FEATURES

Carbon Frame

Seamless sleek looks which deliver exceptional strength and a lightweight frame, thanks to hand laid carbon fibre.

New Shimano EP801 Drive and Battery System

A new level of smooth and customisation while still delivering class leading power. The new Shimano EP8 (EP801) is a more intelligent drive unit that offers controllable high-performance power with a max torque of 85Nm across a wider cadence range than ever before. The result is smooth power and enhanced control to provide that natural ride feeling on the trails. Together with Shimano's biggest 630Wh battery, nothing is holding you back.

Internally Routed Cables

Internally routed cables tidy your cockpit and allow you to focus on the stuff that matters

Trail Focused Geometry

Our dual geometry design allows you to run either both 29 inch wheels or swap the rear wheel for a 27.5 to run slacker angles, or even two 27.5 wheels. Pair this with being able to run a 150-170mm fork which again slackens the head angle and you have a choice of 6 geometry numbers before choosing your parts

The Rhyolite Story

Born out of want for something different - we set out to produce a bike that people feel connected to throughout the build process.

We learnt about the importance of this by operating a bike shop and continuously offering unique and unusual solutions to take a standard E-bike and adjust different areas of the bike to make it work for the rider. We found that more and more people were spending all this money on a base bike with kit they didn't really love and then had to spend a bucketload more to get it to the point where they were happy. It just makes no sense.

The urge of offering a unique bike specifically built for the rider became stronger and stronger. Until we decided to take destiny into our own hands.
Frankie and Joe, the founders of Rhyolite and owners of a local E-bike shop, started by visiting around 50 different factories. They would then send samples to Thijs back in New Zealand, who worked as the head mechanic in the store and is also trained as an industrial engineer. He would examine every small part of the sample with a fine-tooth comb to inspect the quality, and look for areas of improvement.

After finding the best production house, we started focusing on redeveloping the geometry to fit all the possible builds that could be made with our E-bike frames. In addition to the geometry, the other focal point was to create a future proof bike that would facilitate the right size battery compartment and motor systems for future advancements in ebike technology.

We now have working prototypes and have finalised all parts to bring our Rhyolite E-bikes to life, launching at Crankworx Rotorua in 2022!
